Fighter Planes
Previous | Next by Casey 09 March, 2003 - 12:00 AM

By request from muhgcee:

These are the sorts of planes that fly over my house on Capitol Hill every day. Today there weren't so many. I was up on the deck for an hour and this was the only one I saw. Yesterday I saw five in an hour.

I can understand any skepticism people may have about me describing this image as that of a fighter plane. I will do my best to try and get better images. Its really hard though. I took some test shots on commericial jets with the three cheap cameras I have. My digital video camera has a 24x zoom with a 6 second photo option. This picture was taken using that camera at about 12x digital zoom. These planes move really quick, so any tighter on the zoom and the camera can't retain focus. All the other cameras could not zoom enough to produce images large enough to be interesting. I may have to work with a tripod next.

Also, as a side note to the coders: the "add image" link (and the others) on the "add entry" page is broken. Otherwise I would have uploaded this image directly to EA. Is this a "me" thing? Also note me not pasting into feilds twice (I can learn).

Really high up there and obscure I see . . . interesting nonetheless.

Ya, they aren't exactly buzzing us. They are flying at approximately the same altitude as the commercial jets flying into Reagan National. The airliner I saw being tailed on Saturday was flying lower than any other I had seen. I'm assuming that had much to do with its being tailed. Perhaps the low altitude was a traffiking or piloting error.
