Improving Your Computing Experience: Using screen
by muhgcee at 30 June, 2005 - 3:34 AM
I just spent way more time than I thought I would writing a tutorial on how to use GNU screen. The tutorial can be found here. It is my first write-up of this kind, so please be kind.

Archivo - Nuevo - Ventana
by Casey at 30 June, 2005 - 1:18 AM
I am writing this post from a techno-club/internet cafe in Quito, Ecuador. I´ve only had about 1.5 iters of Cervesa Pilsner so far and I think I´m starting to understand all the Spanish I´m hearing around me. Much Much more on this topic at some later time, but for now, let me spout a half-drunk missive...

Z-Trip = God
by Septimus at 28 June, 2005 - 9:55 AM
So as Ben (I think) posted a while back, Ishkur said Z-Trip is currently the best Dj in the world.

I am now a true believer. I finally found a site with a bunch of his sets and albums and they are amazing. He has a track called motown breakdown that has 12 motown hits on top of hip-hop beats done in 8 minutes.

And try and catch him on tour. They're still working on the dates but he supposed to be coming to the 9:30 club in July.

Linux Raid
by iceman at 27 June, 2005 - 11:09 AM
Here is my problem.
I currently have redhat enterprise 3 and I want to use the new fedora core 4 for my server. My reasons for the switch is RHE3 doesnt have as good support as the fedora project does....some may dissagree but oh well.

I have a software raid on RHE3 and the /etc/raidtab file holds the config stuph for my riad. When I install fedora core 4 will my raid be seen or will I have to do something else to get it to work, or will I lose all my data?

US Military Budget
by muhgcee at 21 June, 2005 - 11:16 PM

I knew the US Military Budget was bloated, but I had no idea it was this bad:

I was watching this video of a debate between Ralph Nader and Howard Dean, which piqued my interest on this issue. Is this really necessary? What is the point of having a military budget that is about 8 times more than anyone else?

wikitorial at the L.A. Times
by ben at 19 June, 2005 - 3:41 PM
here's something interesting. a wikitorial is apparently an openly editable editorial - which begs the question, but no, i'm not going there right now.

i grew up not reading anything but the comics in the newspaper, and i try to keep it that way, but the editorials (at least in the Baltimore Sun) have often grabbed my interest... my question is, if you let it open to the general public, will it be as successful as a general wikipedia? i always thought of an editorial as a sort of open letter from a person (or persons) to the general readership... with their own forum for response. I didn't expect the forums to melt together... but... i'm interested again.

George W. Hitler
by ralph at 15 June, 2005 - 11:42 AM

Well, we all knew that it would happen sooner or later, but it's disconcerting nonetheless. And no, it's not photoshopped, it was taken at a Republican Party fundraiser yesterday. From Yahoo.

Just When you think America could not get any dumber
by Dan at 10 June, 2005 - 1:26 PM
Okay, so I made a mistake and watched the 100 Greatest Americans on the Discovery Channel.

There were some obvious choices that were on the list. But, I was throwing things at the TV.

For those of you who missed the horror the list is at:

Beer, Sausage, Burgers, Hotdogs, MEATFACE!, and Creamed Ass
by ralph at 01 June, 2005 - 4:10 PM
For all of you in the know (and those of you that aren't), there's a barbecue, party, drink-a-thon, orgy, and just general debauchery planned for Saturday, June 4th at Ben's house. The grill will be lit at 12:00 noon and according to Ben, the party will continue till there's no one left standing or Monday morning, whichever comes first.

For anyone interested, yes, I will be making an appearance, and no, I will not be signing autographs. Well, maybe just a couple.

Harm or Benefit?
by Casey at 01 June, 2005 - 12:38 PM
Human Events online thinks these are the ten most harmful books of all time. I personaly think some of them were of great benefit. My list is in the comments, what's yours look like (indicate if you've read it or not too). The subjects of these books I think are so well known that you probably don't have to have read it to have an opinion about thier subjects.

1. The Communist Manifesto
2. Mein Kampf
3. Quotations from Chairman Mao
4. The Kinsey Report
5. Democracy and Education
6. Das Kapital
7. The Feminine Mystique
8. The Course of Positive Philosophy
9. Beyond Good and Evil
10. General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money
